Day 4: Iron Man

Before the commencement of the Iron Man Challenge 2011, En Rahman were stung by bees 7 times when he was clearing a path for the students to use. Thank goodness he recovered and sustained no serious injuries.

To successfully complete the Iron Man challenge, the participants must work together in their teams and overcome various obstacles in the checkpoints they visit.

In this year's Iron Man Challenge, the teams had to cover the WHOLE of Pulau Tiga Resort.

Team Bravo was the first team to finish Iron Man. This is followed by Alpha, Charlie, and Delta.

The marshals were so impressed by the teams' performances, they decided to treat them to barbecue!

Exhausted from the long day, Malayandi had some shut-eye before dinner.

After going through a whole day of exhausting tasks, there was still one more thing in store for the participants: They had no clue it would be their last night in Sabah.

We were blessed with good weather on our last night!

Day 3: War Games

We returned from the Survivor Challenge this morning, exhausted and in desperate need of a shower.

After yesterday's undeniably energy-draining Survivor Challenge, we're thankful today's events were at a less punishing pace!

We may look fine, but you should have smelled us.

Most of us went for snorkeling while the others got to dive into the deep blue sea.

The waves were big and choppy, but at least the sky was blue and clear.

War games were later that day and we had fun attacking the other team's bases.

Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, we were no match to the marshals, or otherwise known as Team Super Gaban :(

After dinner and some time to rest, we were brought to a side of the beach where a bonfire was set up. It was time for ghost stories!

Day 2: Survivor Challenge

Survivor Challenge is difficult by itself already, and the sporadic bursts of heavy rain throughout the day did not help.

We travelled by boat to the other side of the island where Survivor Challenge was held, and the participants had to swim to shore.

After collecting our materials, we went further into the the forest where Survivor Challenge really begins.

Each group was given a live chicken to learn to care for other living creature. Little did th know that very chicken will soon serve to be lunch as well.

The teams were busy with setting camp at building a bivouac. No bivouac equals to sleeping in the rain! We also had to prepare lunch for ourselves, which the marshals had the pleasure of trying.

After spending the whole day in the forest, Survivor Challenge was still far from over.

Later that night, we had our very first Fear Factor.

We were served a exotic four-course-meal, which consisted of live silk worms and unidentified mush. It took up all of our remaining strength to pluck up the courage, but in the end we all managed to down the feast and surprisingly, held it in our stomach.

Does it taste better going in or coming out?

Of course, that wasn't the end of Fear Factor.

One member from each team had to go through one more round of fear factor:

And to top it all off, the teams had to go sleep in their bivouac, under the pouring rain.

Cempaka Platinum Expedition 2011 Day 1

Hey guys!

It's only 10PM but I'm pretty sure everyone is rather exhausted, and it's only Day 1!

Then again, it could have something to do with the lack of sleep the night before...

Anyway.

After a 5-hour journey, we reached the Survivor Island and were greeted with

smiling faces.

After lunch, we had a go at a traditional Sabahan dance and tried their hands on some traditional instruments.

As Day1 of Platinum is relatively easy-going, we played some games which helps with team bonding. Learnt that you have to think through a task before tackling it.

The day ended with the first Tribal Meeting, where En Raphael, En Hisham and En Salleh gave words of advice to us, and telling us that they expect us to perform our very best.

Well, you don't expect anything less from a Cempakan, do you?

Day 3: Tour/War Games

This morning we had to rush through breakfast and head to Semenggoh to see some orangutans. Unfortunately, we arrived there after feeding time was over. But that's alright, because Hot Mama made up for it. And in case you were wondering, Hot Mama is the name of one of the orangutans. We even met an Orang Utan by the name of Minah - Aminah was not amused!

After visiting the orangutans, we went for lunch at the Banquet restaurant in town. It felt fantastic having a proper meal after the survival challenge! This time we really appreciated where the chicken came from!

As soon as we were done with lunch, we made our way to a local pottery where we learnt a great deal about the art of pottery making. We were even allowed to have our go at the wheel and managed to create our own masterpieces!

We were there for about an hour, and we were anxious to get back for our next activity was WAR GAMES!!! This time it was League Style and we played capture the flag. Unfortunately Aminah was unclear on the concept and began by running away WITH her flag! Well at least she was thinking out of the box!

The Best Participant for the War Games was Melanie. Incidentally the best participants for Survivor Challenge and Fear Factor 1 was Aminah and Yo Xin respectively. They were amazing.

We ended the evening with our usual tribal meeting and had to turn in early as we had a long day tomorrow - IRON MAN!!

Day 2 : Survivor Challenge & Fear Factor

Good evening guys! Just got back from Survivor Challenge and will post up some stuff now.

Today, we had our Survivor Challenges 1 & 2:

Survivor 1 :

Swim to the shipwreck to collect their lunch. Slaughter, clean and cook a live chicken. Finally, to construct our bivouc for the night's accommodation.

Survivor 2 :

Orienteering to locate our dinner using a compass. Once located, to cook it as our dinner.

Also am working on the podcast now and hope to have a video up for you before I make my way back to the island for our first series of Fear Factor and our 2nd tribal meeting.

Day 1 - Kuching or Bust!

The time now is 4:59 am and everyone is walking around half asleep, trying to search for something that would pass off as breakfast. At present, the Media Team is at Coffee Bean and Kuah is the only one eating - but that's okay, because he is eating enough for the rest of us!

Our flight is at 7:30 am, so the next time you hear from us will be from Kuching, Sarawak! Bon Voyage!!

CAS Platinum Expedition 2010 Podcard Day 1

We arrived at Permai Rainforest Resort at 11 am and we were greeted warmly by a traditional war dance, in which we participated! We started working on our team flags and our war cries.

After lunch, we didn’t waste any time and went for our first team building activity - High Rope and Flying Fox. The view from the top of the trees was breathtaking, however we had little time to enjoy it as we were soon hurling

through it at breakneck speed...okay maybe not BREAKNECK!

As the sun set, we had a delicious dinner with a fantastic view of the South
China Sea. Our first Tribal Meeting was to follow, where we received our Platinum Tokens and instructions for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day - SURVIVOR CHALLENGE AND FEAR FACTOR! Wish us luck!!
